What is the Kyowhadan?

The kyowhadan is a group of dedicated members of the Temple who have received a dharma name. In Won Buddhism, receiving a dharma name signifies your rebirth as a sincere practitioner. It represents an open mind and heart; a beginner’s mind, willing to receive any guidance to deepen your practice. Entering a Won Buddhist path by receiving a dharma name means resolution and commitment to self and community.

Kyowhadan members gather together on the first Sunday of each month. During this special time, they contemplate dharma, provide mutual support for their practice journeys, and deepen their affinities with our kyomunims and sangha.

If you have been regularly attending weekend services and have been an active member of the community for at least 1 – 2 years and are interested in being a part of the kyowhadan, please speak with one of our Temple kyomunims.
