Walk for Peace is a 2,300-mile pilgrimage by Buddhist monks across the country to awaken peace, compassion, and connection in our communities. (Donation link)
To support their journey in a meaningful way, we invite you to join a simple daily practice of bowing for 21 days.
21-Day Practice (January 11-31)
Practice every day in whatever form is doable for you.
Set aside a small daily dana (donation) to offer at the end of the 21-day bow for peace. (This is an optional practice.)
Practice at home using a cushion or mat, or join us at the Chapel Hill Temple: (You’re welcome to come at any time during these hours.)
7:30-8:30 AM
8:00-9:00 PM
Right after every community meditation session
You can join through bowing—or through any simple daily practice that helps cultivate mindfulness and a wish for peace.
Bowing Meditation
Bowing is a practice to humble the ego and return to the Buddha nature within, with an aspiration for peace.
Ways to Bow
You may choose any form
Sitting bows
Standing bows
Full prostrations
Or alternate among them
How to Begin
Start gently with 4, 10, 21, or 108 bows, or any number that suits your energy level, and then increase a little each day.
Bowing helps us purify our energy and practice humility. During the bowing challenge, we will send our energy to the monks walking for peace and to everyone working to create peace in the world.
