Introduction to World Buddhism: 7-8:30 PM, Wednesdays (March 17th – April 7th)

Led by Michael Macklin (Won Hyoung), a Psychiatrist/Psychoanalyst who has studied and practiced Buddhism for over 10 years. Michael is a member of Won-Buddhism of NC. The goal of this course is to introduce participants to the different practices of Buddhism in the world today. Michael is going to touch on the history of Buddhism and its development as well as to compare and contrast the major branches of Buddhism including the Thai Forest Tradition, Zen Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhism and Won Buddhism. This retreat includes silent periods of meditation along with moving (taichi, kigong), sitting, walking, dharma speaking, chanting, journaling, green tea, resting in nature--all within a context of finding our oneness with nature. Give yourself the gift to rest in your true nature, leaving ordinary concerns behind, and allowing yourself to deepen your practice. Buddhism and Won-Buddhism - Basic concepts and practice

Rev. Wongong is offering a class in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Duke University.

We will learn about the basic concepts and teachings of Buddhism. In some classes we will discuss the history of Buddhism, how Buddhism has evolved in different countries, including Won-Buddhism in Korea, and the application of Buddhism in our lives today. Other topics to be covered include dying and death, reincarnation, and karma. There will be a hands-on instruction for meditation practice and a field trip to an active temple if interest is indicated. Monthly Saturday Afernoon Retreat

Every last Saturday of the month from 2pm - 5pm. Features green tea, walking, moving chanting and quiet sitting meditation. RSVP or sign up would be appreciated. Suggested donation $10.

Children/Family Meditation (ages 5–12)

  • First Sunday of every month: 3 PM - A brief game/activity for children followed by the meditation session.

Teen/Tween with Family Meditation

  • Second Sunday of every month: 3 pm

Meditation in Korean

  • First Saturday of every month: 6 pm

Green Tea Meditation with Kyomunim
